I like how Dicky Maegle is being interviewed at a bar. One gets the impression that just outside the frame sits a Crown Royal and soda, on the rocks with a twist of lime.

Just watched this again. What's up with them playing "Dixie" in the background? Grainy black and white footage = Ken Burns' Civil War miniseries?

Two memories:
1. I remember seeing this clip and reading the story for years and years throughout Junior High and High School and never knowing the schools involved, including a clip from some Bob Hope type special with them both on it in suits and looking like Mad Men. Interesting to see that Maegle seems a bit pissed about it b/c of the possibility of injury- I certianly don't blame him. I don't think I knew it was Rice until two years in at Rice.
2. I remember writing the sports section for a few O-Week handbooks and always citing this historic play...it always included Tommy Lewis tackling a "streaking Dicky Maegle" such that I can only think of his name with the word streaking in front of it.

Playing Dixie is odd, but I think it was for the sake of 'Bama. 1. Maybe proud, but not so much in the right. 2. Not sure where the clip is from but if national TV, most people wouldn't even know Rice is in the South whereas Bama screams Dixie.
