Robert Kiyosaki

Has anybody heard of this guy before? I heard him on the radio yesterday, and the opinions seem 50/50...either he is a kooky Tony Robbins-esque money guy without any real advice or he is a savior. I was mainly surprised I'd never heard of him; he has a rabid following and an equally rabid set of critics. Gamma, I'm interested in your take because I'm thinking RP running mate....

I read his book a few years ago and found it pretty informative. I have grown-up in the "poor dad" type of household where my parents thought our house was a great investment. Kiyosaki did a pretty good job exploding that myth among others.

He's a fan of MLM and Amway-ish businesses, and the WSJ and Kiplingers have joined a host of other harsh critics, questioning his methods, philosophy, and personal history. His one area of unqualified expertise is selling books that feature the word "Rich" in the title. That's not unlike authors who write books teaching others how to write million-dollar screenplays, without themselves having sold a single one. The easiest way to make yourself rich is to tell other people you can make them rich. For more, including his charming thoughts about conquistadors and his feckless performance on 20/20, check out his wikipedia page.

Then again, I think we can all agree that none of this would disqualify him for a spot on the Republican ticket at all! Palin/Kiyosaki in 2012 would really keep the GOP on it's current, hilarious vector ...
